So we closed on our land a few months ago and although our plan is still not to build for a while (ok, ideally if we sell our house it will be sometime next year) we've started slowly clearing the land. And by "we", I mean my dad has started clearing the trees. Last week we met my parents over there to mark trees that we wanted to keep, which are very few considering most of the trees are dead or nasty pine trees. That being said we are definitely going keep a thick line of trees along the side that has neighbors and a group along the back of the yard. At this point the entire lot behind us is all trees, so our hope is that no one will ever build there. We've heard that the neighbor on the other side is trying to buy that land, so that no one will be between us and that will then keep it private for both of us.
Here's a shot of the kids before we've started any clearing. There are lots of large rocks on the property, so hopefully they'll be nice to use for some landscaping.
This past week, we've also gotten in contact with a builder to help us draw up our floor plans. At this point we've put money down for the initial drawing, but we'll be able to do as many revisions as we'd like before purchasing the final product. For the most part we have it narrowed down to a pretty specific plan, but we just need a few modifications. Once that is completed we'll be able to take the plans out for bids.
The thought of our getting our house ready to sell is truly dreadful and in a perfect world, someone would just approach me on the street and insist on buying it as is.
